In 1871, James
and Jane moved to Marshall and
resided on Warren St., for
most of their married life. James was in partnership with A.E.Watson, for three
years as miller, at Rice Creek Mills. He sold his interest in the Rice Creek
Mills and was in partnership with his brother, Orrin, for 3 years, running the
planing mills in Tekonsha, Michigan.
James returned to Marshall and
established himself in the business as breeder and dealer in fancy poultry. He
was one of the most successful breeders of fancy poultry in Calhoun Co. They
were members of the Methodist Episcopal Church and James served as trustee and
